Measure efficiency without losing sight of scale
A low power usage effectiveness figure does not reveal whether servers are being used productively, nor does it erase absolute electricity demand. LighterGrid considers measured efficiency and useful utilization alongside renewable procurement.
Keep environmental effects distinct
Water, cooling, recovered heat, construction materials, and site reuse remain important, but belong in distinct parts of the score. Keeping those impacts separate makes the methodology easier to audit and prevents one sustainability measure from being counted twice.
Make evidence part of the score
The Energy & Carbon pillar rewards renewable coverage, additionality, temporal and geographic matching, efficiency, grid flexibility, lower-carbon backup power, and credible disclosure. An industry article can identify a promising facility, but publishable scores require current, facility-level documentation.
